Board of Education Monthly Meeting Summary: June 2026

The Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education met on Monday, June 22, 2026, in the Liberty Middle School Auditorium for its monthly session.

These are not the official meeting minutes and do not include every detail from the meeting, but rather a summary to assist the District #7 community. The official minutes can be found on the Board of Education Diligent website once approved by the Board.

From the Superintendent's Report

  • The EHS staff parking lot project has been completed.
  • EHS students participating in international travel programs returned from Spain on June 20. Students traveling to the Galápagos Islands are scheduled to return on June 24.
  • EHS boys basketball will host an NCAA Live Event from June 26–28 at EHS and Liberty Middle School, featuring approximately 70 teams.
  • The 2026–27 school calendar has been finalized, with Tuesday, Nov. 3 (Election Day), designated as a student attendance day. Should state guidance change, the calendar will be updated accordingly.

Upcoming Summer and Back-to-School Dates

  • July 6 (week of): ParentSquare invitation and family communication distributed.
  • July 12: Recommended deadline for registration to ensure class schedules and transportation assignments are available prior to the start of school.
  • Mid- to Late July: District and building-level back-to-school communications distributed to families.
  • August 12–13 (12:00–7:00 p.m.): 7th and 8th Grade Welcome Days.
  • August 13, 14, 17, and 18: EHS ID picture days and device pickup.
  • August 14: Mascot Welcome events for students entering grades 3, 6, and 9.
  • August 17–18: Teacher Institute Days.
  • August 17: Kindergarten Orientation.
    • Hamel Elementary: 5:00–6:30 p.m.
    • All other elementary buildings: 6:00–7:30 p.m.
  • August 17: Open House – Edwardsville High School (5:00–6:30 p.m.) and Middle Schools (6:00–7:30 p.m.).
  • August 18: Open House – Primary Schools (Preschool, 1st and 2nd Grades) (5:00–6:30 p.m.) and Intermediate Schools (6:00–7:30 p.m.).
  • August 19: First day of student attendance for grades K–12 (half day).
  • August 24: First day of attendance for Preschool for All and Early Childhood students.

Recognitions 

  • Liberty seventh grade boys track and field team was recognized for its third-place finish in Class 4A with 25 points. State medalists included Josh Payne, who won the state title in the pole vault. Austin Allaria added a second-place finish in the shot put, while Lawrence Hooks placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash. For the eighth-grade boys, Liberty placed seventh as a team. Alex Siegel earned a second-place finish in the discus, while the 4x200-meter relay team also finished second. The 1,600-meter sprint medley relay added an eighth-place finish.

  • The Edwardsville High School Girls Track and Field Team was recognized for winning the IHSA Class 3A State Championship. State medalists included Joi Story (State Champion, Shot Put; 3rd, Discus), Jayla Gathing (State Champion, Discus), Sophie Shapiro (State Champion, 300-Meter Hurdles; 2nd, 100-Meter Hurdles), Joanna Anoke (4th, 200-Meter Dash), Joslyn Springman (6th, 100-Meter Dash), and Morgan Gestes (6th, Long Jump). The Tigers also earned state medals in the 4x100 Relay (3rd), 4x200 Relay (2nd), and 4x400 Relay (8th).

  • The Edwardsville High School Boys Track and Field Team was recognized for its state placers, including Parker Owens, IHSA Class 3A State Champion in the pole vault, and Gavin Stuckenberg, who placed eighth in the shot put. 
  • The Edwardsville High School girls soccer team for their fourth-place finish in the state tournament.

In action, the Board approved:

The Concussion Oversight Team. Required by state law, this team establishes protocols for return-to-play and return-to-learn for students who have suffered a concussion or head injury during interscholastic athletic activities. The following individuals were appointed to the Concussion Oversight Team: Amy Boscolo, Athletic Director, Bill Herman, Asst. Athletic Director, Katie Hamilton, Athletic Trainer, Rylie Murray, Megan Slack, School Nurse, Dustin Battas, Eric Pretto, Dr. Omotola or office representative.

The 2026-2027 Board of Education Meeting Calendar

2026-27 Title I School-Wide Waivers for all 10 elementary schools, allowing the District to apply for school-wide Title I status and use federal funds to support all students and staff rather than only students identified for intervention services.

The Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) Charter for July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028, establishing a committee to review curriculum-related matters and provide recommendations to the Board to support informed, transparent, and community-informed decision-making.

The amended 2025-26 budget, reflecting updated state and federal revenue and grant allocations, adjustments to expenditures, and the bond refinancing approved by the Board of Education in February 2026.

Resolution establishing committed fund balance at the end of the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year, committing $1 million from the Operations and Maintenance Fund for renovations and parking lot construction at EHS South to support the relocation of the Curriculum Department and eliminate the District’s lease of the Mannie Jackson Center.

The December 2026 purchase of Lincoln Middle School furniture – Phase 2, as part of the ongoing Lincoln Middle School renovation project. The purchase is one of three planned furniture delivery phases and remains within the project’s approved furniture budget.

The Food Service Equipment Replacement Bid for Goshen and Cassens Elementary Schools, approving the replacement of aging kitchen equipment to ensure reliable meal service. The project was awarded to Stafford-Smith, Inc., the lowest responsive bidder, at a cost of $190,178.06.

A Memorandum of Understanding to continue the School Resource Officer Program for the 2026-27 school year, maintaining the partnership that provides School Resource Officers in District schools. The program will be funded through the District’s Tort Fund.

An Intergovernmental Agreement between District #7 and the Edwardsville Public Library to expand student access to library services, ensuring all District #7 students have the opportunity to obtain and use a library card, including students living outside a public library service area. Library cards will be linked to student ID cards.
